Okay, this is so late and literally the most boring shortest chapter in the history of forever but I’m so stuck and also I’m stressing and I can’t write three fanfics anymore so I’ve put Stars That Shine on a break and I think this one might also go on a break while I write The Winner Takes It All. Yeah, enjoy (you won’t.)

Mitch finds her half an hour later in his car. With the way he’s looking at her, she guesses that Reece told him what happened.

When he pulls her into his arms without a word, she knows Reece told him.

safe and sound: chapter eight

REECE

They end up going to a bar (Reece is finally eighteen, so he doesn’t have to use his fake i.d. anymore or have the rest of the boys sneak him in) and they just drink and hang out. Reece doesn’t get swarmed by fans (mainly cause nobody knows he’s left Sydney, but whatever) and he can finally just drink and not worry about anyone caring.

All the boys get drunk along with him and he’s plesantly surprised when he looks over at Liv and Lesley dancing and notices that Dawn’s drinking, and is obviously loosening up. He walks over to them (dragging Mitch with him so he doesn’t look like a loner) and starts dancing next to Dawn.

(And god, next to her he looks more clumsy than ever)

“Having fun darling?” he questions, grinning at her. Dawn smiles back, her eyes soft and her smile small. She nods her head happily, swishing her hair all over the place. It had fallen out of the bun thing awhile ago Reece realised, and decided he liked her hair better down anyway.

“We’re gonna head over to a better club later, more drinks and more dancing,” he informs her, still grinning. “That okay with you?” she nods her head, smiling. She gets her phone out of her bra (he tries so hard not to look, but the girl has good boobs. And boys like boobs, okay?) and types something on it, handing it to him. “I like dancing & I like drinking, course that’s okay with me!” he reads out, imitating a girly voice (he wishes he knew what her voice sounded like, he really does). He laughs and grabs her hand. “That’s good,” he whispers- loud enough so she can hear him over the music, but quiet enough so his voice has that husky sound, that he’s learned girls really seem to like- “because I like those things too.”

(When she blushes in response, he tries not to tell her how freaking cute she is.)

Two hours later, they’re in a bigger club, with more people, louder music and better alcohol.

Reece loves it.

Brad and Connor have been dancing with some hot girls for over forty five minutes. Brodon disappeared twenty minutes ago with some red head girl with loooong legs, and Reece couldn’t be prouder of him. Mitch and Liv have been dancing together, talking to a few guys (he hopes at least one of the guys in this place is gay, so Mitch doesn’t feel left out like usual) and Lesley and Dion-

Reece hasn’t actually seen them since they got there.

“If Dion hurts Lesley, I’m gonna punch him in the face,” he notifies Dawn, who’s sipping her drink. She laughs and hits him gently. She hands him her phone seconds later, and Reece watches her cheeks turn a slightly pink colour as their hands brush.

“Let her do what she wants,” he reads out, frowning. “She can do what she wants, that’s fine. I was simply commenting that if Dion hurts her, I’ll rip his fucking head off,” he says, his voice dripping with charm. She scoffs and grabs her phone back. When it’s obvious she’s finished typing, Reece grabs it out of her hands.

“You’re a fuck wit,” he reads out, his lips conforming into a pout. “That’s not very nice Dawnie,” he teases, gulping when he sees the glint in her eyes. “What?” he questions, wincing when he realizes his voice sort of cracked. She grabs her phone back again (more forcefully this time) and types furiously. She thrusts it back into his hand, a frown on her face.

“Don’t call me ‘dawnie’ again.” He reads out, laughing. “Okay Dawnie,” he teases. She glares at him, grabs her phone and storms off, leaving Reece to wonder what the hell he did wrong.

He finds her fifteen minutes later, sitting on the roof of the club (it’s three stories high, and Reece tries to pretend he’s not that high up, or else he’ll start crapping his pants). He walks over to the edge (very carefully) and sits down next to her.

“I found Dion and Lesley,” he says, awkwardly. “They were making out by the guys toilets. Not the funnest place to make out, but whatever,” she turns her head to look at him, before turning away again. He runs his fingers through his hair in frustration, frowning. “Dawn- what the hell did I do?” she looks at him again, before pressing a button on her phone and standing up. His own phone beeps a second later, and he opens the message from her with a confused look on her face.

“My mum used to call me ‘Dawnie,’” he reads out, feeling his entire face frown. He stands up, and grabs her arm to stop her from running away. He curses when Dawn’s standing there, tears streaming down her face.

“I’m sorry,” he says softly, like it would help. She looks up at him (she took her heels off hours ago, and she’s back to basically being a midget) her eyes bright with tears.

“Not your fault,” she murmurs; her voice cracked and quiet. She offers him a tiny smile before her eyes open wide. Reece stares at her, completely shocked.

“You- you talked,” he stutters, his eyes widening in shock. Dawn just stares back at him, before-

“Oh my fucking god,” and then she bolts to the door and out of his sight.

DAWN

She can’t think, she can’t breathe, she just-

After she leaves Reece, she rushes to the bar and orders a bottle of Vodka (she just points at it, too scared to talk, but not wanting to type on her phone). The bar tender gives her a weird look, but hands over the bottle and gives her the change. She offers him a smile (or at least, she tries) before taking the bottle and walking out the door.

She doesn’t know this city, and she doesn’t know where the hell to go, so she just heads to the car park and hops into Mitch’s car. She opens the bottle, and within fifteen minutes, the entire thing is gone, her throat is stinging, and she’s starting to feel like she’s either going to

a) puke
b) laugh
c) cry
d) faint or
e) all of the above.

Ten minutes later she’s crying recklessly, and her throat hurts even more.
